This past year was the year of miracles as God provided in amazing ways for the work of Hope 2 Others in Tanzania and Guatemala – often through the hearts and hands of people like you! It was exciting to see the delivery of the donated City of Sun Prairie ambulance to Tanzania and the many other ways that God worked through H2O this year.
Tanzania – We completed a six week trip to Tanzania in May to receive the donated ambulance, ultrasound and medical supplies, and begin the work to set up a new clinic at the New Life Band School and a new mobile clinic in the ambulance.
While there, we saw patients in Arusha and in the village of Kisongo working with Tanzanian emergency medical physician Dr. Aluseta Kansary. The trip also included ministry with Pat Loomis and Pastor Russ Frase with Joshua Nations to assist their establishment of Bible Schools in Arusha, Dadoma, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
This trip was significant as we developed and deepened ministry relationships while practically meeting needs from the simplicity of book shelf construction to the distribution and organization of medical and school supplies. We were excited as God gave us many new relationships and showed us the need for future medical clinics and schools.
2012 also marked the founding of Hope 2 Other’s first international office in Dar es Salaam on Nov. 15 under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel Mitcachi and Elizaphy Deo. The first meeting included 24 Tanzanians in attendance, and an offering of 900,000 tsh ($562.50) was taken to launch the office. Praise God for the excitement and generosity of our Tanzanian friends!
Guatemala – A 10-day trip to Guatemala and Guatemala City once again confirmed the need for H20’s long-term work in that nation. We are always inspired to work alongside Nancy and Dave Comello as we visited and ministered at six different ministries, including an abused woman’s shelter and home, several organizations serving the needs of children and urban poor, a medical clinic and the House of Prayer in Guatemala City. We see the fruit of Hope 2 Others’ ongoing commitment to Guatemala, as well as the many practical and medical needs in the years to come.
As Hope 2 Others looks into the future in 2013, we have many goals we hope to accomplish. Those goals include:
• Identifying and funding staff and volunteers for both the warehouse and office work. This includes a plan to add Rick and Karen Klemp as partially funded by Hope 2 Others so they can transition their careers towards full-time supported ministry.
• Continued work in Guatemala at the abused women’s home and three other identified ministries. Work includes providing medical clinics as able, including promotion and training of “Healthy Births and Babies.”
• Further construction of homes in Rwanda through Someone’s Home and exploring the development of a vocational training tailoring school and microfinance to launch women in business.
• Continuing to meet the immediate needs of the homeless in the Sun Prairie area through the work of Shelter from the Storm. We are working to identify and strengthen relationships with partner faith-based and governmental organizations to solve the “hidden problem of homelessness” in our area.
Finally, we plan to implement the Helping Babies Breathe training for midwives, birth attendants and medical professionals. This program is part of an effort by the World Health Organization to decrease infant deaths/mortality by the year 2015. My colleagues and I would first provide this training to an established birthing center ministry in the Phillippines, then work together to bring it to Tanzania, Guatemala and Rwanda. This is an outstanding training that will impact the life and breath of many babies in medically underserved nations.
Thank you for your prayers, encouragement and support of the work of Hope 2 Others, Shelter from the Storm and Someone’s Home. We continue to be challenged by the enormity of the needs that we see in our travels, both locally and internationally. But even more, we are amazed by the provision and generosity through people like you as we have “ringside seats” as God works in mighty ways to care for His people. Won’t you consider joining us again in 2013 as we continue the work of the ministry?
